In a move filled with frustration, a group of Ugandan Pastors have publicly denounced Pastor Solomon Male of Arising For Christ Ministries accusing him of being an “accuser of the brethren” because of the efforts in which Pastor Male has been exposing Pastors who sexually abuse their congregants not to mention other heresies and vices.

"FIVE Pentecostal churches yesterday denounced Pastor Solomon Male, arguing that he lacks authority and does not own a church. The churches, under four Pentecostal groups, said the allegations made by Male against fellow pastors were lies meant to destroy rival churches. Male is leading a campaign against homosexuality in religious institutions. He has accused Pastor Robert Kayanja of the Miracle Centre of sodomy and has gone out of his way to try and prove the allegations. “We denounce Solomon Male of Arise for Christian Ministry; he is not a pastor, nor a disciple or believer of any known congregation,” said Joseph Serwadda, the chairman of the umbrella group, in a press briefing in Kampala. he statement, signed by pastors Julius Peter Oyet, Godfrey Luwagga, Ambrose Gidudu, Osborn Mayanja, David Mukoko and Aloysius Bugingo, called Male “an impostor, destroyer, liar and accuser of brethren who speaks without authority”. yet argued that Male runs an NGO and not a church. When contacted, Male said he does not need to own a church to comment on the victims who suffer in the hands of church leaders."

The Pastors claim that Pastor Solomon Male does not “own a church” and therefore not qualified to address any issues of morality and doctrine inside the Ugandan Church. However, the Pastors failed to mention any plans they had to deal with the rampant sexual abuse, pedophilia, and homosexuality in Uganda’s Evangelical Church. The Pastor failed to mention what they plan to do to combat money laundering, extortion, wife snatching, heresies, and false teachings in the church.

The move by the Pastors was one filled with a lack of decorum in that they had no consideration for the victims of sexual abuse in their churches and are instead engaged in a continual cover up of criminal activities inside the Ugandan Evangelical Church and how to save the public images of their ministries.

If there was anything that the “Denouncing of Pastor Solomon Male” accomplished, it was a continual cover up of crime and obstruction of Justice inside Uganda’s Evangelical Church.

Yet still interesting is the fact that some of the Pastors who gathered to “denounce” Pastor Solomon Male are kingpins of Uganda’s Prosperity Gospel and unapologetic about it.

Among them is Pastor Joseph Sserwada who goes by Dr. Joseph Sserwada, a proprietor of IMPACT FM, one of Uganda’s top ‘Christian Commercial’ Radio Stations. Pastor Sserwada is also a champion of Political Christianity in Uganda and helped President Museveni secure the ‘Evangelical Vote’ in the 2006 Presidential elections. He was later accused by fellow Pastors of taking bribes from the President for the election, an allegation he denied.

"The leader of the National Prayer and Reconciliation Team, pastor Joseph Serwadda requested the President to set up a trust and reconciliation commission to spearhead reconciliation and forgiveness in Uganda for harmonious existence of all Ugandans. He went further and requested that February 14, 2006 be made a National Day of Prayer because even the world over it is cerebrated as the day of love (valentine). However, when the President stood to pray for the nation, he instead promised to change the law, which requires born-again churches to register and renew annually with the ministry of internal affairs and promised to direct the ministry to acknowledge them just like other religious groups. The news was received with ululations and cheers from the mammoth crowd. Pastor Serwadda expressed happiness towards the president for accepting this sensitive repentance prayer and reconciliation event to take place and for attending it in person. Of the 5 presidential candidates in the February 23rd election, only President Museveni attended this national prayer day. "

Another mystical prosperity preacher is Apostle/Bishop Julius Peter Oyet who claims that he visited Heaven and that his life has never been the same… Apostle/Bishop Julius Peter Oyet is the kingpin of the “Curse – Deliverance” Gospel in Uganda. Christians line up in hundreds to receive deliverance from curses that are said to haunt their lives. The Christians receiving deliverance from the Curses have to pay money as a “point of contact” for the deliverance.

“On July 4,1995 Julius had a Heavenly encounter during an operation in Mulago Hospital in Uganda! The Lord took his spirit to Heaven for three earthly hours! This encounter has changed Julius’ life and Ministry forever. He has written a life transforming book entitled “I Visited Heaven.” After “I Visited Heaven”, Julius has authored several best selling publications including “Hope For The Barren”; “Recognizing The Voice Of God”; “Sacrificing Your Life For The Pleasure Of The Present”; “Breaking Family Curses;” “War On Curses”; “Get Connected”; “Rise and Be Healed”; and many others…”

But another prosperity gospel kingpin who did not miss the “denouncing” was Pastor Godfrey Luwagga who constructed a Mega Church that killed Christians when the Church collapsed. Pastor Godfrey Luwagga refused to abide by City Engineering Laws and went ahead to build his Church by ‘Faith’. He was later charged in Uganda’s Courts of Law.

"The Proprietor of the City of the Lord Church, which collapsed a fortnight ago killing 29 people was yesterday charged in the KCC court with erecting the building illegally. Pastor Godfrey Luwagga was charged by the Grade I Magistrate, Ms Esta Nambayo. He, however, denied the offence. Luwagga was released on bail of Shs200, 000 cash and each of his ties bonded at Shs2 million (not cash). Prosecution alleges that Mr.Luwagga and others still at large between August 12, 2004 and July 2005 - at Nsooba Lufula Kalerwe- Mulago III parish in Kawempe erected the church building without KCC permission. Prosecution further says that erecting a building without permission contravenes regulations 2 (1) and (4) of the town planning regulations and statutory instrument. According to court records, the victims of the collapsed church were attending a believers' prayer conference organised by several pastors in Kawempe Division.Pastor Luwagga was reportedly not at the church at the time of the incident."

The “denouncing” of Pastor Male is nothing but a cover up of crime inside the church and an obstruction to Justice. Some of Uganda’s Evangelical Pastors still do not see it in their interest to voice justice for the victims of sexual abuse inside Uganda’s Evangelical Churches.
