T. B. Joshua’s ‘holy water’, over which four Christian Worshippers died in Accra on Sunday, was apparently meant to bridge the poverty gap between the Poor and the Rich in Ghana, one of the Nigerian Prophet’s Evangelists has told XYZ News.

Evangelist Samuel Excellence said: “[T.B. Joshua’s] position about this whole anointing water has to do with the fact that he realises that there was a large gap between the Rich and the Poor, and the grace of God is what brings healing, deliverance and blessings for the salvation of the souls; so his intention is that as people participate in this grace, through the medium of anointing water, that gap will be bridged”.

Thousands of Christians trooped to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at the Spintex Road on Sunday to have access to the free anointing water.

A scramble ensued within the humongous congregation with virtually every Worshipper pushing and shoving for access to the ‘holy water’.

The chaos resulted in a stampede in which four Worshippers got trampled and asphyxiated.

The bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra.

At least 30 others also got seriously injured and had to be rushed to the Hospital.

Evangelist Excellence said Prophet T. B. Joshua had to personally intervene to prevent the disaster from exacerbating.

“Immediately the stampede took place….he was made aware and right on Emmanuel TV, he spoke to the whole world that he understands this and that and that is what is happening at the Ghana branch and as a result the church [was] coming to an end so that the Evangelists could take care of the situation on the ground; so he spoke publicly declaring that the service was coming to an end”.

The ‘holy water’ stampede has sparked a major debate in the Ghanaian media about the genuineness of what some critics have described as highly celebrated Christian cult figures who are followed by millions of people around the world.

A Ghanaian Pastor, who is the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Isaac Owusu-Bempah, is quoted by local News Paper ‘Gye Nyame Concord’ as having accused T. B. Joshua and fellow Nigerian Evangelist, Chris Oyakhilome of devil worshipping.

Faith is a powerful thing! Radioxyzonline.com Reports that

Four Christians are reported to have died on Sunday May 19, 2013 during a stampede at anointing water Church service at T. B Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at the Spintex Road.

The stampede started when the huge congregation at the Church rushed for the anointing water from Prophet T. B Joshua.

DSP Freeman Tettey of the Police Headquarters told XYZ News that the leaders of the Church have been ordered to end the service abruptly in the light of the stampede.

The four bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra.

At least 30 others have also been reported to have incurred injuries.

A phalanx of cars on the Spintex road and its enclave, en route for the anointing water service by Nigeria’s Prophet T B Joshua in Accra, resulted in an impenetrable gridlock which is causing frustration to commuters and Residents in that area.

Hundreds of cars-belonging to Nigerians in Ghana as well as Ghanaians, have been parked on the sides of the road in a mesh of chaos, which has spewed onto the roads and thus resulting in a go slow.

Many Christians were also seen trooping to the Prophet’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at the Spintex area on foot, thus worsening the traffic situation within the enclave.

There was a similar chaos within the same enclave on Tuesday May 7, 2013 when T. B. Joshua was in Ghana’s national capital for a two-day service.

Just like the May 7 situation, Sunday’s Service has attracted thousands of Christians to the Spintex area resulting in the entire enclave being invaded by a sea of cars, some of which have parked haphazardly on the sides of the road.

Public figure David Ampofo, who described the situation as “total chaos” in an interview with XYZ News also wrote on his facebook wall that: “Come and see what is happening on Spintex road. We can’t even go out to work or take the kids to school because T.B. Joshua has arrived in Ghana and is holding a service at his Church on Spintex road with a message from God for his flock”.

“Cars parked all over, on pavements, on the lawn, in every conceivable space. People trooping in large numbers on foot, making their way to see their “man of God”, describing it as a “shame” and asking: “What is wrong with us?”

Mr. Ampofo wondered why so many thousands of people would abandon their jobs on a Tuesday morning to go to worship with T. B. Joshua.

Sunday’s traffic mayhem caused by T. B. Joshua’s presence has elicited similar comments from some people on social media.

BBC’s Correspondent in Accra, Sammy Darko wrote the following on his facebook wall on Sunday morning: “Spintex road blues……what a traffic…church traffic!!”

He said: “I see more Nigerians than Ghanaians”, and added that: “Most of the cars [parked on the shoulders of the road] and People walking by the shoulders of the road are Nigerians”.

Uncouth TB Joshua macho men must be prosecuted – Prof. Karikari

The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Professor Kwame Karikari has added his voice to the call for the arrest and prosecution of Prophet TB Joshua’s uncouth macho men who detained some journalists for hours on Tuesday.

Prof. Karikari told Adom News in a telephone interview “people cannot take the law into their own hands and maltreat journalists in that manner so the police must come in quickly and arrest and prosecute them immediately.”

The call is in line with that of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President, Affail Monney, and that of Legal Practitioner Tony Forson.

The journalists, from MultiTV and Net2 TV, were filming the heavy human and vehicular traffic around the Spintex Road premises of TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations when they were picked up and detained by the unruly macho men.

The journalists detained included MultiTV Joy News Channel Reporter Emmanuel Anteh and cameraman Gilbert Azu.

Anteh told Adom News they were filming the crowd and the vehicular traffic from outside the premises of the church when the macho men walked up to them and invited them to come inside the church.

“We thought they were going to help us to cover the event from inside so we followed them willing only for them to go and lock us up in a room where they had locked up reporters from NET2 TV,” he said.

He said one of the macho men tried to seize their camera and that nearly led to a fight, adding that they were held for hours till midday and it took the intervention of the police for them to be released.

After their release, one of the Communication Officials of the church called and apologized and blamed it on Ghanaian macho men hired without training to work on the bishop’s security team.

GJA said the excuse and apology of the church is lame and weak so the police must act with the ‘speed of light’ in arresting, investigating and prosecuting the culprits.

“The church knows who they are so they must give them out to the police for investigations,” GJA President Affail Monney said.

He also insisted that the church would have to compensate the journalists for the unwarranted indignity visited on them by the recalcitrant macho men.

Some individual journalists who spoke with Adom News are also calling on the police to investigate what right and authority those macho men had to pick up journalists who were filming the cause of a traffic jam with an open public space and not on a private property.

Meanwhile, Adom News has learnt that officials of the Synagogue Church have invited the affected journalists to go meet with Prophet TB Joshua himself for an amicable settlement.
